Cung Le's Suspension Lifted

After battling the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Vietnamese fighter Cung Le has his nine month doping ban lifted after complaining about UFC's process.

After a drug test, Le was suspended for nine months due to increased levels of Human Growth Hormones (HGH) in his system.

There is no way to directly test if an athlete has undergone HGH treatment. However, the UFC said that the level was outside of their standard reference level, and assumed that Le was cheating.

Le denied doping though, and he and his manager questioned the UFC's substandard testing and sample-handling methods.

In the end, the UFC had released a statement that said that they were provided medical information which led them to realize the suspension was not warranted.

As a result, the suspension of Le was lifted.

Le's last fight was against British trash-talker Michael Bisping in Macau, China.

Due to a photo that Le released before the fight, looking considerably muscular for a 42-year old fighter, Bisping called for a drug test to make sure his opponent was not on any Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs).

Since Macau is not in the jurisdiction of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NAC) - who usually take care of drug tests - the UFC took it upon themselves to do the drug tests.

The UFC used the Hong Kong Functional Medical Facility Testing Center (HKFMTC).

The website of HKFMTC lists a number of procedures that they do such as: offering to test metabolic function, examining hair for heavy metals or nails for drug usage, and even a service called "autism medical testing."

The hospital does not indicate whether or not they test for HGH though. On top of that, the HKFMTC does not reach the standards of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
