Craig Spencer, a 33-year-old volunteer of the Doctors Without Borders movement, tested positive for Ebola virus disease after being rushed to Bellevue Hospital Thursday with symptoms including a 103 degree Fahrenheit fever.

Spencer and his girlfriend, Morgan Dixon, were both quarantined Thursday noon as authorities retraced the couple's steps after the doctor returned from Guinea on Oct. 17 following a month of treating people stricken with Ebola.

The doctor was bowling on Wednesday night in Williamsburg. To get to and from the neighborhood in Brooklyn, he used Uber, a ridesharing service that connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire.

Following Spencer's visit, The Gutter bowling lanes were closed because of "unforeseen circumstances."

After a connecting flight from Brussels, Belgium, Spencer arrived on at Kennedy Airport Oct. 17. When he was assessed with the enhanced screening process at the airport, his temperature upon his arrival was 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, which is inside the 97.8 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit range of a person's normal body temperature.

On Thursday morning, however, he awoke with a 103 degree fever, nausea and stomach pains.

The doctor quarantined himself at his apartment at West 147th Street and immediately notified the Doctors Without Borders organization, which alerted the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene of the city.

"After consulting with the hospital and the CDC, DOHMH has decided to conduct a test for the Ebola virus because of this patient's recent travel history, pattern of symptoms and past work," the agency said in a statement.

Emergency vehicles went to Spencer's apartment at noon and city officials shut the street down.  A witness saw person in a wheelchair covered in blankets being put on a stretcher and into an ambulance.

FDNY specialists wearing hazmat suits sealed off his apartment on the fifth floor.

As doctors at the hospital waited for Spencer's test results, a team of disease detectives looked for everyone that might have been in contact with the doctor. His live-in girlfriend, Dixon, 30, was picked up Thursday afternoon at her Downtown Brooklyn office.

She has yet to show symptoms of the disease that has already claimed over 4,500 lives in West Africa.
