In an interview with the New York Times, he cited Ebola's exponential potential for his reason in helping to fight the disease.

"Everybody feels called sometimes to really pursue a certain thing that resonates with them, and this has resonated with me," Allen told the New York Times' Stephanie Strom.

Apart from the US $100 million, he has also started a website called TackleEbola.com. The website will help finance the projects dedicated to fighting the disease worldwide.

On the website, several projects are presented, as well as the number of people who have donated, money raised, and the goal.

The projects range from evacuating infected workers, public hand-washing stations, food and nutrition, 80-bed centers, and even protection for orphans and children affected by Ebola.

He has already garnered several supporters for his battle against Ebola. Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson, Head Coach Pete Carroll are onboard.

LaMarcus Aldridge, Damian Lillard, and Nicolas Batum of the Trail Blazers have also jumped on board and endorsed Allen's website.

Allen is also supporting the development of two medevac containment units that the U.S. State Department can use to safely evacuate health workers who become infected.

He has been working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) as well to increase its capacity for handling the logistics of transporting international aid workers.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the outbreak is by far the largest on record and the first to afflict Africa.
