Top seeded Roger Federer won against David Goffin in straight sets 6-2 6-2 to claim his sixth crown at the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Sunday and has aimed for the World No. 1 rank at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris starting Monday.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion needed only 51 minutes to dispose the seventh seeded Belgian in the finals as Federer broke Goffin twice in both sets to claim victory and his second consecutive tournament win after the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China early this month.

Federer also made history in the tournament by appearing in the finals for nine consecutive years, losing to Novak Djokovic in 2009 and to Juan Martin del Proto in 2012 and 2013.

The 33-year-old hometown hero has denied Goffin of its third ATP World Tour title of the year, Austria and Metz, and has positioned himself to reclaim the top spot in the ATP Rankings.

"It would be very special to reclaim No. 1," Federer said. "World No. 1 is what it's all about in our game. With the year I have had and the amount of finals I have played, the level of tennis I have played, I am pleased to see that I have a shot. But having a shot and being there is two separate things."

Since losing in the finals in Shanghai, Djokovic recently had a baby, named Stefan, and has opted to stay with wife, Jelena, in Nice before participating in the last Masters 1000 event of the year in Paris.

With just 490 points separating the champions, if Djokovic exits the Paribas Masters early, Federer must reach the finals in order to reclaim the No. 1 spot.

But the year is not yet over and if the Swiss does reclaim the No. 1 ranking, Djokovic can still snatch the top spot if he wins the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.
