Ebola Outbreak in West Africa - Reuters

Due to the growing number of deaths caused by Ebola in West Africa, the World Bank has appealed for more health workers to volunteer and help curb the outbreak.

World Bank president Jim Yong Kim said that the Ebola-ridden countries in West Africa need of more than 5,000 medical workers and support staff in order to help contain the disease.

According to Kim, many are afraid to volunteer because of the fear of traveling to West Africa and getting infected.

At present, the deadly outbreak has infected at least 10,000 people and has killed nearly 5,000.

Kim's made the plea during his trip to Ethiopia, where he was joined by Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, chairwoman of the African Union, and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

The World Bank chief said that his concern at the moment is finding enough of the much needed medical workers.

In addition, he said that amid the growing fear of people all over the world, he would like for health care workers to realize that they took their oath to heal and serve, "precisely for moments like this."

Meanwhile, Ban said that the rate of the transmission of the virus is slowly outstripping the rate to contain and combat it.

The United Nations Secretary General added that imposing travel bans to the Ebola-ridden countries will help in the efforts of beating the outbreak.

In the United States, a nurse who had previously tested positive for Ebola will be released from the hospital after being declared virus-free.

Amber Vinson, one of the two nurses who was infected by the virus after caring for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first to die of Ebola in the United States, is scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

Nina Pham, the other nurse who also contracted the virus after caring for Duncan, was discharged last week.
