Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, was hospitalized for lumbago. However, his main event fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 will not be jeopardized and will still push through.

After a workout session last Monday evening, Silva suddenly found himself hospitalized with severe back pains.

Training at the XGym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Silva experienced severe back pain right after his workout session. He then collapsed to the ground in pain and began saying that he could no longer feel his legs.

This continued for several minutes before he was placed on a stretcher and transported to the hospital for evaluation purposes.

Silva was subjected to a variety of tests including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CT Scans, and blood tests.

Afterwards, it was confirmed that Silva had been suffering from lumbago, a pain in the lower back that occurs to 40 percent of people at one point in their lives.

He was discharged the following morning.

However, his recent hospital episode will not get in the way of his upcoming return fight with Diaz. It is the highly anticipated main event for the UFC 183 card.

The medical director of the Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts Athletic Commission (CABMMA) released a statement saying that Silva's lumbago is nothing to be worried about.

"It really was a shock," Dr. Tannure said. "He felt a sharp pain because of contracture. It hurts a lot, really, but it will not change anything in terms of training. The problem he had justified the pain, but it will not result in a withdrawal or cancellation of the fight."

While his physicians say that there is nothing to worry about, Silva needs to seek help in ensuring that this pain will not return, especially since he just recently signed for 15 more fights with the UFC.
