According to a report by gaming publisher Activision, "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" hasn't received any decline in sales since its launch last week, and is outpacing sales of the previous installment "Call of Duty: Ghosts."

"We are very happy with how much fans have embraced Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare as evidenced by an increase in combined retail and digital sales year-over-year in the UK," the company said in a statement issued to MCV.

However, numbers don't always tell the whole story and it appears Activision is not making the most congruous comparison. It's difficult to determine how well "Advanced Warfare," which launched November 4, is progressing compared to Ghosts for a couple of reasons.

First, Ghosts didn't launch for all consoles when the game was released. Ghosts was released for next-gen consoles about two weeks later after the initial launch, which certainly alters the one week results in "Advanced Warfare's" favor.

In addition, Advanced Warfare was essentially released a whole day earlier through its Day Zero Edition, which gave gamers who preordered the game an opportunity to play it 24-hours early.

Doug Cruetz of analyst firm Cowen and Company said that September preorder sales were down nearly 50 percent compared to last year.

But there is one snippet of information that helps Activation's claim. When looking at the leaderboards, "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" has more than 2 million users on the PlayStation 4 and another couple million users on Xbox - just about even with "Call of Duty: Ghosts" overall.
