Washington Redskins Head Coach Jay Gruden said that quarterback Robert Griffin III went one step too far with his comments in a National Football League (NFL) post-game press conference.

Sunday saw the second game back of Griffin as he returned from his dislocated left ankle. However, the two games he helmed were both losses.

The most recent one was a losing game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27-7).

After the game, Griffin made a few comments about his team that were a bit off for Gruden.

Gruden did not find most of what Griffin said as incorrect. The coach said that he did not have any issue with most of the things his quarterback said.

However, he also made it clear that Griffin went a bit too far with his comments, which could possibly lead to another struggle within the already struggling team.

After the loss, Griffin spoke about the mistakes he made on the field, and also how he needs to play better.

Reaching the end of the press conference, Griffin's comments turned to his teammates.

"If you want to look at the good teams in this league and the great quarterbacks, the Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Mannings, those guys don't play well if their guys don't play well," Griffin said.

He also added that he needed every player in the locker room, and that his teammates are looking at him and thinking the same.

While Gruden does not disagree with the comments, he said that those kinds of statements should come from a coach and not a player.

Instead, Gruden said that Griffin should be worrying about his footwork, his fundamentals, and his job at the quarterback position.

"His place is to talk about himself and he knows that. He just elaborated a little bit too much," Gruden said.

The Head Coach attributed Griffin's comments to the fact that he was trying to do too much, rather than just concentrating on executing the basic play.
