Universal Studios has saved Aaron Sorkin's cancelled Steve Jobs movie, paying Sony $30 million for the rights to create the new movie.

Universal Studios has picked up the cancelled Steve Jobs movie, written by Aaron Sorkin. The project will continue with the new owner keen to see it come to the movies.

Sony, the previous owner of the Steve Jobs movie, cancelled production of the movie last week. Neither Sorkin or Sony were available to comment on what exactly went wrong.

One report claimed conflicting interests between Director Danny Boyle and Sony. Boyle wanted to shoot on January 2015, when Michael Fassbender - the lead actor playing Steve Jobs - would be available. Sony wanted to shoot the film later, which would have clashed with Fassbender's X-Men: Apocalypse schedule.

There are other theories, like Christian Bale backing out of the movie, leading Sony to pan it a failure before it even got started. This does conflict with the time-frame however, Sony were still investing in the film after Bale decided to drop out of the movie.

It is still not known why Bale decided to drop out of the movie. When Sorkin announced Bale would play the lead role, he talked highly of the actor, claiming he didn't even have to audition for the part, as Sorkin already knew he would do a fantastic job as Steve Jobs.

Fassbender was the second on the list it seems, even though other actors included Leonardo DiCaprio, Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck. Fassbender is known for having a very noticeable face in most of his movies, which could cause problems when it comes to getting the distinct Steve Jobs look.

The movie will follow the events of Steve Jobs life and pull references from Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs. The three main events will include the launch of the Macintosh, the new company NeXT and the launch of the iPod.

Sadly, it looks like Sorkin will not follow the later years of Steve Jobs, notably the most important for Apple. The iPhone and iPad are still seen as the prominent reasons why Apple is still alive and kicking, and the lack of interest from Sorkin to cover these events is rather disheartening.

Sorkin previously worked on The Social Network, a biopic of Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, and how he came to create the largest social network on the planet. Zuckerberg claims while the movie is interesting, it makes a few errors to try and win fans with the story, including Zuckerberg creating Facebook to get women.

This is not the first Steve Jobs movie, jOBS followed almost the same plot time-frame as Sorkin's movie is about to. Ashton Kutcher played the role of Steve Jobs and the film received mixed reviews.
