A 23 year-old fugitive, identified only with the surname "Hong", was reported to have undergone plastic surgery to attend the concert of local pop singer Jay Chou in Hefei, China.

Hong was allegedly a big fan of Jay Chou and had been planning to attend the concert in Hefei for quite some time. Hong was, however, concerned about being identified based on his distinctive mole below his right eye, according to China News.

In an effort to evade police attention at the concert, Hong had plastic surgery to remove the prominent mole and also to change the shape of his face.

The ruse succeeded insofar as police were unable to identify Hong when he was questioned in Hefei railway station shortly after the concert. He was only arrested when he was asked to present a valid ID.

According to the report, Hong had been a fugitive for six months following a fight with a neighbour in his hometown resulting from an unknown argument. Hong had fled authorities before he was to be arrested for misdemeanour assault and remained unnoticed by Chinese police for six months.

Following the arrest, Hong reportedly claimed he was happy to have been able to sit through the entire performance of Jay Chou. According to the report, Hong even asked the arresting police officers if he would be allowed to keep the concert tickets as a memento in jail. Whether his request was granted or not remains unclear.

Taiwanese-born Jay Chou, 35, is a widely recognized and successful singer-songwriter within the Chinese speaking region but has had relatively little success elsewhere, aside from selected Chinese communities within the US and Australia. His music has been classified mainly as a fusion of pop, rock and R&B sensibilities, with some hip-hop influences.

Chou has, however, gained recognition worldwide as an actor after he starred in films such as The Curse of the Golden Flower (2006) and The Green Hornet (2011) in which he had the shared lead with Seth Rogen.
