New Google Glass Patents Reveal Revamped Design

Google Glass could have a small design change coming before the apparent launch in 2015. A new patent, filed by Google Glass' lead designer Isabelle Olsson, shows the new design.

The design takes up less room on the face for users and there is some sort of grill on the side, possibly a mini-vent, to avoid heat or noise building up on Google Glass.

Google did file the patent back in 2011, showing it has been quite some time before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office got around to checking it out. For all we know, there might be an even newer design in the works.

Google Glass has been noted for its rather obnoxious design. Luxottica, eyeglass maker behind the Ray Ban and Oakley brands, tried to create more fashionable designs.

The update may fix a few of the issues people have with the design, but Google Glass needs quite a bit of work before it goes commercial. The price is the main factor, but also the apps store is quite barren, considering almost two years of development.

Currently, fans of Google Glass pay $1500 for the Explorer edition, the beta edition of the device. Google has not given a price or date for the commercial edition, although various outlets claim it will come in 2015 for less than $800.

However, in the past few months Google has shown zero interest in updating Google Glass. Executives who normally promote the device have been seen not wearing it and Explorer owners are starting to question Google's long time commitment.

The news of a new design and work with Intel support the claim Google is actively working on Google Glass, but the silence either shows lack of interest from the top executives or the calm before the big announcement.
