After suffering two broken ribs in a losing game against the National Football League's (NFL) Dallas Cowboys (41-28), Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall will be out for the rest of the season.

With 7:35 left in the first half, Marshall caught a fourth-down pass from Jay Cutler. As he was securing the ball, Cowboys safety Barry Church jammed his right knee into the lower right side of the receiver's back and midsection.

Marshall left via ambulance after sustaining the injury in the second quarter.

"Yeah, it looked kind of [like] an innocent hit. I didn't see it that well," Cutler said after the game. "He's a big guy and has taken a lot of crazy hits over the years. He doesn't stay down. So whenever he stays down, you know something is seriously wrong."

He continues by saying that the whole team is worried about him and that he is "their guy", making known all the team member's wish for him to get better.

Two sources informed ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter of Marshall's status. He remained in the hospital from after the game on Tuesday until Friday in order to receive treatment.

"I went over to the hospital last night to see him," Bears coach Marc Trestman said. "He was in very good spirits. He's got some healing to do."

On Friday, the team also made the call official that Marshall will not be playing in the next game on Monday against the New Orleans Saints. They plan on determining the best course of action for the receiver once it receives more information regarding his condition.

Prior to sustaining the injury though, Marshall caught three passes during the game and totalled for 61 yards.

This injury marks the third time this season that he suffered an injury that forced him to miss playing time.
