FSU Lands Fifth-ranked ESPN 300 Prospect DE Josh Sweat

Florida State University (FSU) has landed Josh Sweat, the five-star Class of 2015 defensive end and fifth-ranked prospect of the ESPN 300. He committed to the school on Wednesday in a ceremony at Oscar Frommel Smith High in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Sweat was the former top-ranked prospect in the country before he sustained a knee injury this season. He is now the 10th ESPN 300 pledge for the Seminoles, who now have the number 2-ranked class in 2015.

Sweat was a part of the selection for the 2015 Under Armour All-America Game. He picked FSU over other elite schools such as Virginia Tech and Georgia. Prior to his decision, he had visited Ohio State and Orgeon as well.

The 6-foot-5, 239 pound Sweat's surging rise in football ended abruptly when he suffered a dislocated knee and Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear in a game last September 19.

He has earned 25 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, eight receptions for a total of 210 yards and four touchdowns in just two-plus games this season.

While he has already pledged to FSU, he is now rehabbing his knee after he had surgery for it last October 7 in New York. It was performed by the National Football League's (NFL) New York Giants team physician Russell Warren.

This month, he is set to graduate from Oscar Frommell Smith and plans to enroll at FSU in January.

"There's not a prospect in the country with more upside than Josh Sweat," 247Sports.com National Analyst Steve Wiltfong said. "He's an instant impact guy wherever he goes. Elite quickness off the edge gives him the opportunity to be a difference maker as a pass rusher from day one."

He continues by saying that apart from his skills, he is someone that people just want to be around, he has a great demeanor and handled his recruitment with professionalism.
