Many people, including politicians, celebrities, co-writers, and fans, posted their reactions to Maya's death on social media.

The Boston Globe cited US President Barack Obama testifying to the truth of Maya's "greatest stories." John Kerry said she will remain as the "people's poet," while Bill Clinton likened her death to America's loss of a "national treasure."

Even Sesame Street was saddened by the news, and thanked Maya for the "hugs" and everything she had done. Lena Dunham posted a tweet thanking the writer for her power, politics, and her poetry.

Other writers, such as J.K. Rowling, paid tribute to Maya by posting their favorite original inspirational quotes by the influential poet.

Celebrities also took time to share their best moments and favorite quotes by the courageous poet. Beyonce posted on Instagram a picture of the "phenomenal woman" along with the one Maya's poems.

Maya's long-time pal Oprah also took to Instagram her grief for the poet's death and her gratitude for her contributions to her life. The talk show host posted a long message describing how Maya Angelou became her mentor, sister, and friend since her 20's and had taught her how to share her learnings to others and live life with "unshakeable calm."

Rihanna recounted how the first book she had read as a teenager was that of Maya's. The pop singer said the poet made people feel safe.

Olivia Wilde praised the late writer for being a "badass woman" who turned the impossible into a simple dare.

Sophia Bush was at a loss for words for Maya Angelou's contribution to society. She said the writer taught people so many things "by simply being."

For the rest of the world, everyday folks who did not know Maya Angelou for real drew out quotes from her poems and memoirs to warmly send her off as well.

On the day Maya Angelou died, people took some quiet time alone to hear God's voice, but mostly through her words.  The resulting crescendo of lamentations over her death may be no different from that of caged birds singing one tune - differently, but the same.
