If Amazon can't fly its drones just yet, it might as well provide a service the federal government won't tie-up in regulation.

The online retail giant has decided to unleash a fleet of bike messengers to deliver items in New York City. It's already tested this old fashioned but speedy delivery system.

It looks like bikes are the way to go for Amazon since the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration hasn't given the green light for Amazon to fly its drone delivery fleet over the city.

The good news for New Yorkers is they'll receive the items they bought in just an hour.

The Wall Street Journal witnessed a number of messengers conducting timed tests out of one of the company's locations near the Empire State Building. This location is currently being used as the headquarters for Amazon's bicycle messengers.

Amazon, however, refused to comment to the media about its bike delivery service it's named "Amazon Prime Now".

Reports said this service will first be available in Manhattan but could soon be expanded to other parts of New York State.

But there's a catch. The one-hour delivery service will be more expensive than Amazon's same-day service.
