A mall shopper, who shot a 16-year-old boy outside the Miami's Dayton Mall on Saturday, possibly bought a pair of athletic shoes on sale that the teener wanted to buy but arrived at the shopping center too late.

Sgt. Joe Phares from the Miami Township Police Department said that the teen, Jawaad Jabar, and two other males went to the mall for the shoe sale, but when they found that the footwear he wanted was no longer available, they went to the shopper, who was with a companion outside the mall, and asked them to give the shoe to their group, reports Hickoryrecord.com.

Phares said the details such as what kind of shoe was involved or if the shoe that Jabar wanted was the one purchased by the shopper ahead of him still remain unclear. However, the following video said it was a pair of Air Jordans by Nike.

One of the youth whipped out a gun to convince the shopper to turn over the shoe, but one of the two early shoppers had a concealed weapon with a permit, and he used it to fire at Jabar, a student and athlete at Middletown High School.

The 16-year-old died of the gunshot wound on his torso at 10:55 a.m., according to the Montgomery County coroner's office. His two companions were not injured but are being held at Dayton's juvenile detention facility, although Phares was unsure what charges would be filed against them.

"This was a random act of, 'I want something that person has, and I'm going to take it from him," Phares said of the incident.

Unfortunately for Jabar, things did not go according to their plan. The pair of athletic shoes that he wanted turned out to have a very costly price tag - his life.
