The National Basketball Association's (NBA) New York Knicks finally showed some passion for the sport this season, though it was still not enough to win its Christmas Day game against the Washington Wizards.

Christmas day was not kind to the Knicks. Apart from the 102-91 loss, forward Quincy Acy was involved in a skirmish with Wizards star guard John Wall.

With little more than five minutes in the game, Acy shoved Wall when he had the ball. Wall did not take the shove lightly and retaliated with one of his own. Getting on each other's nerves throughout the game took its toll and things escalated quickly after.

While it was unclear whether Acy was able to deliver a punch to Wall, both players still needed to be separated by their teammates. Acy and Knicks Head Coach Derek Fisher though said that no punch was thrown.

"I didn't throw a punch. I got up and reacted, then I just grabbed him," Acy said.

Due to his actions, the referee gave Acy a flagrant foul two and was subsequently ejected from the game.

Meanwhile, the league will be reviewing Acy's foul and may choose to fine or suspend him in addition to the ejection. It still remains to be seen if Acy will be playing in the Knicks' next game against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.

Acy said after the game that he hoped there was no suspension, because in his eyes he had done nothing wrong.

By his own account, he said that it was just a foul. All he was trying to stop the play as Knicks guard Pablo Prigioni was on the ground and the Knicks were down a man on defense.

Fisher said that he hoped that Acy would not be suspended as there was no punch thrown and also because there was no intent behind the actions.
