Police officers in Los Angeles ceased the intense eight-hour search for two suspects on Monday morning that started after two police officers got ambushed during an unprovoked attack in the area of Vermont-Slauson South of LA the night before that.

LAPD Detective Megan Aguilar said that it was on Sunday around 9:30 pm when the police from LAPD's 77th Division got a call saying two men shot their car at 62nd and Hoover streets. Another LAPD officer said that the gunmen made several shots in the direction of the police and it was completely an unprovoked attack.

A gunfire was returned by the police officers to the alleged attackers, but LAPD Chief Charlie Beck made it clear that none were struck during the exchange of shots. The police saw some gunfire and heard the shots straight from the two men on the pedestrian and they believed that they were the targets of the attack so they fired back.

After the incident, KTLA reported that a rifle, a pistol and several shell casings were spotted at the scene. Meanwhile, one man who was arrested after a search was at first pronounced as a person of interest, but Beck said that eventually the man was found as a suspect.

The police are still on the lookout for the second gunman.

In the wake of the incident, LAPD pushed for a huge manhunt for the second suspect, that around 60 police from both LAPD and the LA Country Sheriff's Department went to a 6-block area that engirded Hoover, Vermont Avenue, Gage Avenue and the 60th street.

It was an intense search that SWAT officers and K-9 units were also used just to capture the second suspect, all of which were made both on the ground and also by air for 8 hours. The hunt was stopped after 5:30 am when they failed to arrest any suspect.
