China has denied claims made by a U.S. senator that it helped North Korea hack Sony Corp. in retaliation for the "Interview," a  movie depicting the assignation attempt of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

The Chinese government said that it it never allows any foreign country or individual to carry out cyber attacks from Chinese soil or with Chinese facilities, reports state news agency Xinhua.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, accused China of helping North Korea hack and humiliate Sony. As part of the attack, the hackers released sensitive information about Sony to the general public, including private emails between studio executives, and salary figures for movie stars.

"I can't imagine anything this massive happening in North Korea without China being involved," Graham said. "You can't talk about North Korea without talking about China. You need to have a heart to heart with the Chinese."

China's Foreign Ministry refuted the senator's remarks. "China never allows any foreign country or individual to carry out cyber attacks from Chinese soil or by using Chinese facilities," said Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying. "Such behavior, if discovered, will be dealt with severely in accordance with law."

Xinhua also reported that Hua said Graham's comments are neither conducive to resolving the problems nor strengthening mutual trust and cooperation on cyber security.

Graham also said that he disagreed with U.S. President Barack Obama's labeling of the hack as "cyber vandalism," instead of cyber terrorism.

"What's happened here it shows how exposed we are in America to cyberattack," Graham said. "If North Korea can do this to a major corporation in America, what can other people do to our country."

According to the FBI, North Korea was behind the attack on Sony Pictures and - contrary to Graham's claims - it does not suspect the involvement of any other country, including China.
