Apple Sued For Shrinking Space On 16GB iOS 8 Devices

(Photo : Reuters) Apple is apparently preparing a public-beta program for iOS 8.3 in March.

Apple is in trouble for offering the 16GB storage option, the launch of iOS 8 has irked users even more, removing 20 percent of available storage on purchase.

Paul Orshan and Christopher Endara, two customers from Miami, California, filed a legal complaint to make sure Apple properly advertises available storage on iOS devices.

The duo contend that Apple's iOS 8 update does not offer enough usable space for customers buying 16GB iOS devices, someting plenty of other customers agree on.

As seen on a graph, Apple customers lose between 18.1 and 23.1 percent storage as soon as they install the iOS 8 update on the device, a rather extortionate amount.

Once users run out of storage, Apple also forces its own cloud service, iCloud, onto users to relieve some of the excess. Endara argues Apple unfairly promotes its own cloud storage service, not allowing similar access to third party services like Dropbox and OneDrive.

It is not the first time storage complaints have gone to court, Apple had to fight an iPod storage complaint when users lost 7.5 percent on purchase, and Microsoft recently had to settle a court case with its Surface product, losing almost half the storage.

However, Apple does have a lot to answer for, especially since it removed the 32GB storage option in favor of the ageing 16GB option, which is not worthwhile for any customer.

The move pushed more customers to buy the iPhone or iPad with 64GB of internal storage, costing an extra $100 on contract, a rather large amount for 48GB extra storage.

Apple has not commented on the current complaint, but it will no doubt fight it - we cannot see Apple settling and adding a 10GB storage option instead.
