Sony's PS4 Faces Stiff Competition From Xbox One and Wii U In 2015

consoles

2015 might be a harder year for Sony in the console battle, as the Xbox One and Wii U start to gain more popularity.

Sony has been plain sailing in the console market for the past year, but 2015 will prove a harder battle for the PS4, after losing to the Xbox One in sales on Black Friday in the U.S.

On top of Microsoft ramping up sales, Nintendo's Wii U is also starting to shine, with Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8 and the upcoming Legend of Zelda game all coming to the console.

We recently ran down the top 5 exclusives for both Xbox One and PS4, and while Sony has some exciting titles, Halo and Crackdown will return in 2015 and rumors are swirling about new Gears of War and Titanfall.

Microsoft has more studios on its payroll and the potential for Minecraft 2 is huge. The price drops to the Xbox One have contributed a huge deal towards being more competitive against the PS4.

Currently, the PS4 has over 15 million sales, while the Xbox One slugs behind at 10 million. Nintendo's Wii U has 9 million sales, but in the past three months has shown more signs of life than in the past two years.

Microsoft needs to keep on the offensive, fighting against Sony's PS4 at every turn. The software giant recently scrapped the entertainment side of the Xbox, and is now fully focused on gaming.

Add to that the new Xbox features coming to Windows 10, it might influence PC gamers to pick up an Xbox One.

Sony is still the leader however and does not want its reign to slip. Games like, No Man's Sky and The Order: 1886 might be deal breakers for many console buyers and the potential of The Last of Us 2 is big, and will be another PS4 exclusive.

Each system will be challenged by new issues in 2015, Nintendo needs to keep gamers interested in its first party exclusives; Microsoft needs to make sure its prices stay competitive and Sony needs to make sure it has enough exclusives to interest more customers.
