Building crews set fire to the luxury lake house left dangling about 75 feet (23 meters) on a decaying cliff that has been giving way underneath the structure.

A homeowner in Texas has taken care of his real estate and safety woes by burning his cliffhanger mansion, which had once been valued at around $800,000.

On Friday, demolition teams set on fire a luxury mansion that had been dangerously hanging 75 feet (23 meters) above Lake Whitney. Loose soil underneath the abandoned house had already fallen off previously, according to the Irish Independent.

The demolition crew had planned to burn down the structure by strategically placing fuel-soaked bales of hay in various parts of the house. Within just an hour of setting the mansion alight, most of the structure quickly crumbled or fell to the coast beneath it.

There were live broadcasts of the house burning, courtesy of TV news helicopters circling over the property. The said spectacle took place on Lake Whitney, around 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Dallas.

House owner Rob Webb had decided that reducing the property to ashes was the best and safest way to demolish the structure. According to officials, it had become a cliffhanger house after a large chunk of land gave way beneath its foundation on Tuesday.

The land around the property had begun crumbling and falling off in February, Hill County Sheriff's Department chief deputy Mark Wilson said. Since then, around 50 yards of land that served as a divide between the house and the water's edge has also given away and fallen into the lake.

Webb had spent his retirement savings building the house but has since abandoned it. In an interview with Dallas TV station WFAA, he said he was almost unable to recognize the mansion from news footages.

The cliffhanger mansion was constructed in 2007 and was inspected before it was bought.

Meanwhile, local media said Web will most likely be billed for the cost of the structure's demolition and removal.
