The Bloodhound SuperSonic Car isn't your ordinary car. That's because this vehicle can reach a speed of 1,000 miles per hour and it's going to attempt to break the world land speed record in 2016

If it succeeds, Bloodhound will be the first land vehicle to have gone faster than 1,000 mph or 1,600 kilometers per hour. The Bloodhound project said it's confident of breaking this record and the man with the job of doing that is fighter pilot Andy Green, a Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force.

Green currently holds the world land speed record of 763 mph (1,223 km/h) attained in the Trust Supersonic Car way back in 1997. Green will take Bloodhound to the Hakskeen Pan in the Kalahari Desert in northwest South Africa for the record breaking attempt in 2016

Bloodhound is powered by a mighty Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine that equips the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter. The handmade racer also has Nammo hybrid rockets while its chassis is made from titanium and carbon fiber.

The Bloodhound Supersonic Car kit contains over 3,500 components. Some 110 man-years were invested in the design, build and manufacture of Bloodhound.

Bloodhound will measure 44 feet in length and 6 feet in diameter. It will weigh a 7.5 tons.

Green described Bloodhound as a triumph and has been dreaming of breaking the world land speed record he set in 1997.

Green said the team "has been through a huge evolution of finding something that's tough enough that would do the job. Basically this car goes faster than a speeding bullet, so anything that hits this is like being shot at from a gun."
