The first goal came in the 16th minute when Pokklao Anan directed a long ball into the net to put the Thai side 1-0. On 23th minute, Buriram United striker Adisak Kraisorn made it 2-0 by converting from a few yards.

Camacha, the head coach of China, immediately made three substitutions and that proved effective as Yu Dabao charged forward and forced a penalty which was converted by Wang Yongbo in the 33th minute. Then, the Thai team took advantage of China's absent-mindedness, and quickly enlarged the gap to 3-1 before the interval.

Thailand looked more confident while China seemed to lack willingness, and in the 61st minute Adul Lasoh took the ball from midfield and passed to Chanathip Songkrasin who created the fourth goal. At the last few moments, Sarawut Masuk rounded out the scoring with a short-range kick to complete the 5-1 win over China. This is the greatest victory that Thailand ever wins against China.

The loss of the match casted shadows on Camacha's prospect as China's national football team head coach, fans in Hefei Stadium chanted "resign, resign" to express their angry. Some fans might still remember the match in August 2011, also played in this stadium. In that match, China beat Jamaica 1-0. At that time, Chinese team was coached by Gao Hongbo. However, after the win, Gao Hongbo was removed from the post and Camacha was made as China's coach. Now, Chinese football fans start cherishing the days when Gao Hongbo was coach.
