While Peyton Manning's performance against the Indianapolis Colts was not much appreciated by the fans, news has surfaced stating that his teammates from the Denver Broncos were not aware of the extent of his injury going into the game.

After throwing six straight incomplete passes, the fans let Manning know how they felt about their quarterback with a hail of boos.

Heading into the playoff game, Manning said that the right thigh bruise he suffered during the December 14 game against the San Diego Chargers lingered on long after. However, it was not enough to sideline the accomplished quarterback.

On Monday though, ESPN cited two anonymous sources who stated that Manning was playing against the Colts with a "torn" quad muscle, the severity of which he had tried to conceal.

Reports are contradictory though, as two people with the knowledge of Manning's health told The Associated Press it was "a strain." This is what the team has known all along.

They continued by saying that the tear-strain debate could be a matter of semantics though as a strain occurs when a muscle is stretched too much that it tears. Another term for it is a "pulled muscle."

The one thing that Manning did come out and dispute was that he had injuries to both thighs. He reported that he could manage his right quadriceps injury, adding it felt good heading into the playoff game.

Instead, he blamed the injury on dehydration from a stomach bug the night before the Chargers game.

Receiver Wes Walker said that he could not tell if Manning was hiding the extent of his injury over the last month.

Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said he got no such indications during practice. However, he was quick to say that practice was not a good measurement of a person's well-being.

While the extent of Manning's injuries is uncertain, Linebacker Brandon Marshall said that Manning looked stronger on Sunday if anything. However, for sure he was not 100 percent.

"Nobody was," said Marshall.
