In a surprising turn of events, Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones will not be declaring for the National Football League (NFL) draft. Instead he hopes to play more games for his Buckeyes.

Jones was the Buckeyes' third string quarterback. The amazing thing is that he only started for his team last December 6.

However, with the help of coach Urban Meyer, they were able to raise the inaugural College Football Playoff.

Jones announced last Thursday that he will be returning to school after helping Ohio State win their first championship.

The Buckeyes beat Orgeon 42-20, bringing up Jones' college starter career to a pristine 3-0.

Jones explained that the decision to not declare for the NFL draft was an easy one to make.

He said that after only three games, the NFL was definitely out of the question for him. He isn't totally opposed to playing in the NFL. He actually wants to play someday, but he is taking into account the correct timing of the moment.

He emphasizes that football has always been a stepping stone for him towards his education.

Two of Jones' three starting games resulted in championships. These were the Big Ten and the national title. All of these three games also were against ranked opponents.

Jones' season began in 2014 as the third-string quarterback on the Buckeyes roster.

He had been passed by freshman J.T. Barrett following a spring practice in which Ohio State was looking for a temporary replacement for injured starter and two-time Big Tem Player of the Year, Braxton Miller.

However, when Jones' opportunity came, he did not waste it. His first game was a blowout (59-0) against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship. He then rallied them past Alabama in a Playoff semifinal, and the final one against Oregon.

While Jones had a great performance, he says that when he goes back, he wants to compete for the quarterback spot and earn it first.
