Marketing Students Present a Concept Video for 'Google Gesture' App

Sweden based marketing students have come up with a very innovative concept, the implementation of which will allow people to understand sign language with an app.

The concept is only available in theory for now, but it seems quite possible if we could have it practically implemented in near future. According to the concept video by the students, an app can be designed which would translate sign language into speech, which could be understood easily by anyone. A wristband would be donned by the person using sign language, and the app will analyze the gestures and convert it into speech accordingly.

The video of this whole concept, dubbed as 'Google Gesture' was filmed by the marketing students of the Berghs School of Communication. However, the presentation of the same was such that it appeared as it belonged to Google.

The students stated that the app will be paired with a forearm band, which will make the use of electromyography, the term used for the analyses of muscle movements during the task of signing. The electromyography data will be then sent to the app, which will convert the gesture into audible speech.

"The vast majority of people don't understand sign language, which means a lot of interesting conversations never take place," the video says.

Although, for now Google has nothing to do with the app, and this concept, the idea behind the same is quite incredible. And it is not completely unlikely that Google won't take interest in future. Also, it is worth noticing, that in the past Google had developed certain software for helping the deaf.
