Twitter Tests New Homepage Look to Attract Millions Who Don't Log-in

Twitter shows off its new homepage, its latest experiment to lure users to log in and create an account.

A slideshow of tweets and photos from users and different genre can now be seen on the homepage, instead of just the plain log-in screen.

Twitter's old homepage showed a single photo randomly picked from the company's nearly 300 million users. Now the tweaked design displayed streams tweets from different sources such as general news, TV shows and stars.

The tweets seem to have been plucked from popular users of the social media network.  A Twitter representative had confirmed the new look is an experiment.

In November 2014, Twitter executives revealed more than 500 million people visit Twitter.com, but don't log in.  They say by adding more content to Twitter's homepage, they may finally convince at least some of the 500 million to create a Twitter account and log in.

Twitter had been rolling out a steady stream of updates and new products designed to lure more users into joining the network, keep its members, and make them more engaged. In recent weeks, the company launched group direct messages, native video tools and instant timelines.

The latest one is a plan to sell Twitter ads outside of Twitter.  Twitter stocks jumped 6 percent Tuesday.

Twitter went public in November 2013, and its shares were traded even ahead of its IPO. Just a few months later, Twitter had been reporting about its missed growth targets.  The losses were largely due to stalled monthly active user numbers.
