The Overlooked Titan of Golf, Billy Casper, passed away at 83 years of age last Saturday at his home in Springville, Utah. His death was due to a heart attack.

Casper was a two-time United States Open champion, as well as a Masters champion and the player with seventh most wins in Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) tour history. His achievements truly established him as one of the greatest golfers in history.

Despite the fact that he was a good putter and had a good short game as well, Casper was overshadowed when he was in the prime of his career. Figures like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player towered over him and took the limelight.

However, he won 51 PGA Tour events in the span of 19 years (from 1956 - 1975). Only a handful of players have won more tournaments than Casper.

Comments and words of encouragement poured in from fellow professionals when they heard of Casper's death.

Nicklaus posted on his Facebook page that he does not think people give Casper the credit he deserves for being a great golf player. Byron Nelson, on the other hand, stated that if there was one player he would choose to play one round if his life depended on it, Casper was the man he would choose.

After his illustrious golfing career, Casper opened a company called Billy Casper Golf. Through his company, he helped in operating golf courses around America.

These past months though, his company stated that he was having some trouble with his health. The problems culminated to the heart attack that would take his life.

Casper is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, his five sons, his five daughters, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.

In 1989, Casper realized that his career was not one that would always be overshadowed by other great players during his time. He said that people recognize his achievements more now than when it happened.
