Kyle Kraska, a San Diego television sportscaster, was shot and wounded outside his home in Scripps Ranch Area, San Diego, Tuesday afternoon.

The sports director and anchor for CBS affiliate KFMB-TV, however, is expected to recover following a successful surgery.

He was shot in the leg and stomach by 54-year-old Mike Montana, who surrendered to the police six hours after the incident.

Montana was forced to give up when SWAT men cornered him in El Cajon northeast of San Diego, said police spokesman Scott Wahl.

The motive of the shooting and the relationship of the two men have not been immediately disclosed by the police.

Wahl said the police zeroed in on Montana, who they described as armed and dangerous, after witnesses saw him driving from the shooting scene.

The police have not presented the statement of the witnesses, who pinned Montana to the crime. Montana was seen driving a van painted with "Superior Painting" logo.

Rob Pedley, who owns Superior Painting in San Diego, said the van did not belong to his company and he didn't know Montana.

Kraska was onboard his silver Mercedes when the suspect fired the back window of the car.

When the gunman fled, neighbors immediately aided Kraska before he was rushed to the hospital. Among those who helped the TV sportscaster is a nurse who lived in the neighborhood.

Kraska, a Boston native, appears on KFMB's evening newscasts and hosts its San Diego Chargers postgame show. He has worked at the station since 1999 and has been its sports anchor since 2003.
