Winnipeg Jets fans breathed a sigh of relief as their team traded away Evander Kane to the Buffalo Sabres.

The trade, which happened last Wednesday morning, had the Jets send Kane and Zach Bogosian to the Sabres in exchange for defenceman and National Hockey League (NHL) rookie of the year in 2009-10 Tyler Myers.

Also included in the deal to the Jets were wingers Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, and Brendan Lemieux who is the son of former NFL star Claude Lemieux.

Fans, pundits, and reporters all report that they were expecting the trade of Kane and Bogosian.

As a result, owner of Uptown Sports Rick Lefort has started marking down the gear of the two players right after the trade was confirmed. While Bogosian gear is selling hot, Kane's merchandise, not so much.

The disdain of Kane came from several controversies he was involved with in the past.

September of 2013 saw some fans being visibly upset with Kane when he had US$650 in unpaid traffic tickets. He was also fined for texting and driving, as well as driving without a license.

The Jets ended up shouldering the fines, with Kane paying the organization back.

December of the following year had Kane posting pictures on Instagram of him doing push ups with stacks of money on his back. The photo was a throwback to a picture he posted earlier showing him using stacks of money like a phone.

It didn't stop there though, as Kane showed up to a pre-game meeting wearing a track suit. This was a violation of the team's dress code.

Initial reports stated that teammate Dustin Byfuglien later tossed the track suit into the shower. Then, Kane disappeared right before the game against Vancouver.

While the slew of violations and social mistakes could easily be seen as the reason for the trade, Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said that the decision was more to strengthen the team than a reaction to last week's events.
