After seeing little to no change in Bobbi Kristina's condition, doctors decided to perform a tracheotomy on Bobbi Kristina to change the position of her breathing tube. Fans need not worry though, as one family source called it a "normal procedure."

The tracheotomy is a surgical procedure which involves creating an incision on an area on the neck and opening an airway through another incision in the trachea or windpipe.

Despite going through the tracheotomy, however, the source close to the family reveals, "Everything else remains the same. It's a waiting game. The family is hoping and waiting," and adds that the surgery does not mean a change in Bobbi Kristina's status.

The source said that the tracheotomy is a normal procedure because having a breathing tube inside the body for so long can cause an infection. As for the 21-year old's condition, the source revealed that it is still critical but confirmed that "no one is giving up on this kid."

Bobbi Kristina, the only daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, has been in a medically induced coma after being found unresponsive in her bathtub in her Atlanta home. Just this past weekend, a source revealed to PEOPLE that her condition remains the same and that her family is continuing to hold a vigil.

Another source told PEOPLE that Bobbi Kristina's condition has not changed, although the tracheotomy has made an impact on the family members.

The same source shared that there is a medical reason why they Bobbi Kristina had to undergo tracheotomy but continued to say that, "it's making things clear to everyone how serious this is. Even if she wakes up, there's a possibility that this could do some damage to her vocal chords, I hear."

The source concluded, "This is happening because there are no other options. If there was another way, Bobby would do it."
