Summer vacations have become an achievable luxury for Chinese families. According to the Chinese Tourism Academy (CTA) in Beijing, local tourism for summer destinations is expected to increase for the next few years, which can be attributed to social and policy-related changes.

In a Beijing conference last July 4, the 2014 China Urban Development Report of Summer Tourism was released, focusing on the support for and commitment towards Chinese tourism industry including underlying reasons for its possible boom in the future.

First, the increase in China's privileged circumstances has caused residents to seek for better living standards; these include material wealth and relevant personal experiences.

Second, increased responsiveness towards customer needs and improvements in popular summer destinations, including Guiyang and Xining, have also helped in reaching out to Chinese visitors.

Lastly, paid vacation leaves are being implemented whereas the National Tourism and Leisure Outline 2003-2020 memo has been released by the government. As a result, more people are expected to travel with their family members, which can include outings and vacations especially during summer.

CTA Vice President Zhang Dong has pointed out that their latest report is a conclusion of the travel research conducted by the organization which will contribute to making well-informed travel decisions among tourists. Such information is also expected to aid business companies and local governments in developing their approaches toward tourism.

Dr. Wu Pu, policy research associate at CTA, also stated at the Beijing conference that there have been substantial, visible efforts in promoting summer destinations for Chinese tourism. However, there remains a great need to further encourage and monitor its overall development.
