The Wesleyan University is calling on its students to come forward and report any information they might know about drug dealing in the campus.

Last weekend, a total of 12 people, 10 of whom were Wesleyan students, were hospitalized due to party drug overdose. In the wake of this alarming incident, Wesleyan University President Micheal Roth appealed to students to stay away from illegal drugs, which could endanger anybody, and turn in drug dealers.

"If you are aware of people distributing these substances, please let someone know before more people are hurt. "  Wesleyan University President Michael Roth wrote in his letter to the campus.

As of Monday night, four people were still receiving treatment at Hartford Hospital while others had been released. Most of the students who required serious medical attention were those who attended a rave music show in the campus in Middleton, Connecticut Saturday night.

"One mistake can change your life forever. If you have friends who are thinking about trying these kinds of drugs, remind them of the dangers..." Roth added. "These drugs can be altered in ways that make them all the more toxic."

The students were believed to have taken a drug more popularly known as "Molly". The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said Molly or the MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic, psychoactive drug.

The said drug is called Ecstasy when taken as a pill or tablet. Molly is the powdered form of MDMA, which can be easily placed in a gel capsule or inhaled.

Once taken, the drug takes about 15 minutes to affect the brain. Medical experts say the drug activates the serotonin hormone responsible for one's mood, sleep and heart rate.

When the drug's effect is at its peak, one could feel exhilaration and an increased sense of closeness and touch. For others, effect could be negative like paranoia, dizziness and chills.

Middletown police are still finding out whether the students took a "bad batch" of the drug, as they scramble to trace the source of the drug.  Authorities say the drug can vary in potency from batch to batch. School officials believe the students took a more powerful and toxic form of MDMA.

According to Middletown Police Chief William McKenna, their primary goal for now is to get information about the batch of the drugs that the Wesleyan students had used. This information is important because it will affect the recovery of the hospitalized students, he explained.

Roth and other school officials have given a telephone number which students can call to make a report.  Roth assures the identity of the caller will be made confidential.
