The 19-year old suspect in the shooting of a mother from Las Vegas, in what has been called a road rage attack, faced off with the victim's husband in court for the first time.

The accused, Erich Milton Nowsch Jr. appeared in court looking haggard and was accompanied by his lawyers, Conrad and Augustus Claus. He did not enter a plea.

The victim's husband, Bob Meyers, was in tears as he promised to be present at every hearing until justice is served for his 44-year-old wife Tammy Meyers.

Nowsch was arrested on Friday and is now facing charges of murder, attempted murder and firing a weapon from the car for the death of Meyers following a traffic altercation.

During the hearing on Monday, the defense lawyers argued the case was wrongly labeled as a road rage attack.

But the Claus brothers did not provide a new account for the case.  They said they need more time to review police reports and video surveillance before they can stand to defend their client.

Conrad Claus also said they would likely argue self-defense.  The defense team said their client feared for his life, which pushed him to shoot at the car he thought was a threat to his life.

Nowsch remains jailed without bail and was ordered to return on March 10 for the preliminary hearings.  That will determine if there's probable cause to try Nowsch in state court.

On February 12, Meyers, a mother of four, was killed after being shot in the head.  Police and family members said Meyers was coming home from a driving lesson with her 15-year-old daughter, when they had an encounter with a silver vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle went down from the car and approached Meyers and her daughter, and threatened that he'd go after them.

Meyers went home and fetched her 22-year-old son Brandon Meyer, who brought with him his handgun as they went out to look for the vehicle they had earlier encountered.

Police said Nowsch who was at a parking lot, opened fire at Meyers' green Buick Park Avenue sedan.

A short chase ensued, which landed both cars at a cul-de-sac where the Meyers live.  There, Meyers was found lying on the ground bleeding with a gunshot wound in the head.

Authorities said Nowsch told friends the morning after he had shot a green car after seeing someone inside it waving a gun at him and thought they were after him.

More pieces of evidence are expected to be revealed in the next hearing.  A judge will also determine how the case will proceed.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said, prosecutors are confident they have a strong case against the accused.

"We all know there are certain nuances to this case. But at the end of the day, this young man is charged with a senseless, stupid act of murder and we intend to prove it in court," Wolfson said.
