The Steven Spielberg photo with a dead dinosaur that caused a ruckus on Facebook

July 6, 2014 will go down in history as the day Facebook users took a unified stand against animal cruelty and vowed to ditch Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg for killing a dinosaur.

The rage was so real it reverberated throughout netizenry.

The ruckus began when meme artist Jay Branscomb posted a photo on Facebook of an unnamed Spielberg sitting all-smiles beside a dead triceratops, and accompanied it with a caption urging others to share it so that the world can "shame the despicable man."

People fervently responded to the call -in true activist fashion-  with some taking the initiative to report the picture and urging fellow netizens to "stop these cowards" from slaughtering animals.

"It's just like being killed in your own home.. these hunters think, well they're overpopulating so they should get killed," said one female facebooker.

Just as quickly, others recognized Spielberg and pointed out that the photo was taken from the set of the 1993 Jurassic Park film, and that dinosaurs are millions of years gone.

"Steven Spielberg, I'm not watching any of your movies ever again, animal killer," said one Facebook user.

"I don't care who he is, he shouldn't have shot the animal," said another.

Within a few hours of its posting, the picture had generated thousands of comments, some genuinely enraged, others riding on the rage to make fun of the clueless.

"Why would u hurt such an animal that doesn't exist anymore?" questioned one young lady in an obvious attempt at humor.

"Y'all stupid, we don't need your DNA in future generations, and to think that you all vote," quipped yet another.

At more than 40,000 shares, 5,000 likes, 8,000 comments and counting, the conversation thread has become a battle of the smartypants versus dumb and dumberer.

It also exposed the new level of emptiness and nonsensical chatter that social media has inspired.  Welcome to The Lost World that is Facebook, Steven Spielberg!
