Samsung  showcased its new virtual headset for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition weighs only 85 percent of the previous VR headset, which was co-developed by Oculus. To make the headset more comfortable to use, ergonomically designed straps and ventilation were added.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge will serve as the display for the virtual reality headset.  It has the same black and white color as the Galaxy Note 4.

So far, reviews have been positive. One reviewer described the experience and said he could watch a show in 360 degrees just by moving his body and head around. 

He said the VR headset responded to the movement of his head right away. It also helps the display resolution of the Galaxy S6 is among the best.

The original VR headset was already good but the Gear VR is better and more comfortable.  Samsung's latest VR offering also sports notable technical improvements.

The Gear VR processor is even more powerful than its predecessor. A USB port has been added to provide additional power.

Samsung's Gear VR is a great product, no doubt. It does have some drawbacks that potential buyers might consider before buying.

First, there aren't that many virtual reality games or app available out there. Another factor to consider is its compatibility.

It seems this particular VR headset is designed specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. In the future, it's possible Samsung will eventually make a VR headset that will be compatible with most of its smartphones.

Samsung has yet to confirm when the headsets will actually hit local store shelves. The sale price hasn't been announced but pundits believe the price range will probably be around US$200.
