Sean Penn is finally speaking up about his controversial "green card" Oscars joke, but it's not the apology that most are expecting.

Last month, Penn was tasked to present the best picture award to the comedy-drama film, co-produced, co-written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, but before the 54-year old actor announced who won, he commented, "Who gave this son of a bitch his green card?" The controversial comment which many found extremely offensive, was a reference to the director who is of Mexican descent.

At a press conference on Saturday for his upcoming movie The Gunman, the actor stood by his comment and simply told Associated Press that he absolutely has "no apologies." Adding that he has a "big f*** you" to people who he says are stupid for not being able to see the irony living in a country, which then he describes as "xenophobic."

Adding that if the country got its way, renowned filmmakers such as Iñárritu wouldn't be here working in the country.

When he made his joke, he said that he didn't expect people to react so violently, as the director, whom Penn worked with in the movie 21 Grams, even found it hilarious. About the harsh backlash, he simply commented that he's surprised by the stupidity. The actor even said that he liked how his joke was able to let Iñárritu immediately know who the winner was.

The Gunman, which also stars Idris Elba, is set to premiere on March 20, 2015.
