He was once an anti-drug ambassador, but now faces charges on suspected drug use.

China has arrested movie actor Wang Xuebing, the latest personality in the entertainment industry to fall in the government's crackdown on illegal drugs.

Wang joins other celebrities who had earlier been caught in anti-drug operations such as Jaycee Chan, son of Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, and Taiwanese actor Ko Kai.

Wang, who starred in the Golden Bear award-winning film "Black Coal, Thin Ice", was arrested on Monday together with Taiwanese actor Ko Chen-tung on suspicion they were using crystal methamphetamine.

Wang's arrest could bring trouble for his latest movie "A Fool", which recently got an approval to be shown in mainland China beginning May 1st.   But in October, the country's media watchdog warned broadcasters not to allow the showing of movies featuring actors with bad records.

TV and movie companies had vowed not to hire actors involved in illegal activities such as prostitution, drug use and gambling.

Chan served a six-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to the charge of providing a shelter for others to take drugs.  He was also tested positive for marijuana use and was caught in possession of the drug.  Chan was released in February.

China's intensified crackdown on drugs began in June 2014, after President Xi Jingping ordered the police not to spare anybody in its bid to stop drug abuse.

So far, at least 10 people from the entertainment industry have been arrested over drug use and are now facing drug offense charges.  This included local movie and television stars, film directors and screenwriter.
