Darrele Revis returned to the New York Jets for a five year deal worth US$70 million, a source told ESPN on Tuesday.

Two years after the initial divorce of Revis and the Jets, the cornerback has found his way back to the fold with a brand new lucrative deal. Revis' agents announced that the Jets had just pulled off one of the biggest moves of the offseason, as they stole the All-Pro corner away from the Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots.

The deal came through only five hours after the Patriots reportedly declined to exercise a US$20 million option for 2015. However, they had exclusive negotiating rights until 4 p.m. ET.

While the Patriots did not immediately snatch Revis up, it is still a huge blow to the team as they lost a vital member and their most accomplished defensive player who helped them win their championship.

Fans and critics alike figured that Revis had found his new home in New England. They also did not think that he could change teams again for the third straight season. However, Woody Johnson's money was enough to lure Revis back to the Jets.

For his first three years with the Jets, Revis will be earning US$48 million, including US$39 million in full guarantees a source knowledgable on the matter said.

As much as US$16 million and US$17 million are guaranteed for his first and second year respectively. In 2017, US$6 million of his US$17 million salary is also guaranteed.

ESPN data reports that this contract ties Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman for highest among cornerbacks as it garners US$14 million a year average.

With a change in coaching, the Jets are striving for credibility. In only the first day of free agency, the Jets spent as much as US$52 million to reinforce their weakest position, the cornerback.
