Another one bites the dust. In this case, we are talking about National Football League (NFL) players who are retiring young with San Francisco 49ers linerbacker Chris Borland as the latest to do so.

Borland revealed to Outside the Lines that he is retiring due to his concern of long-term head trauma effects the NFL may give him. At only 24 years old, Borland is one of the NFL's top rookies last 2014 season.

Throughout his brief career, he was able to amass one tackle for every 4.5 snaps played. This single statistic is the best mark in the NFL.

In addition, he has had 128 takedowns that led the 49ers as he played in replacement of injured started, Patrick Willis.

The 49ers have confirmed Borland's wish to retire and wishes him only the best moving forward for his life.

In a statement released in reaction to Borland's actions, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said the while the decision was a sudden and unexpected one, the team still respects his decision.

He goes on saying that when he spoke with Borland, he felt that a lot of thought had already been put into his decision. He also called Borland a consummate professional from day one and a respected member of the team and the San Francisco community.

"Chris is a determined young man that overcame long odds in his journey to the NFL and we are confident he will use the same approach to become very successful in his future endeavors," Baalke said. "We will always consider him a 49er and wish him all the best."

In the interview with ESPN, Borland said that he feels pretty good. He just did not want until he had the symptoms because it would be too late by then.

Prior to Borland's retirement, 49ers' five-time All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis also retired last week. Quite opposite from Borland, Willis retired due to his injured feet and toes.
