Liza Minnelli continues her battle with alcohol and substance addiction and is now back in rehab.

The cabaret star had been vocal about her previous rehab check-ins for alcohol and pain killer addiction.

Minnelli's spokesman Scott Gorenstein said she is making "excellent progress" in her treatments.

"Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so. She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility," Gorenstein said.

Sources say Minnelli's current treatment plan aims to address an alcohol addiction. It is not known for how long she has been in the facility, or until when the program will last.

Most people getting into rehab are not capable of putting a stop to drinking on their own.  Seeking professional help becomes their best option to withdraw from alcohol safely and comfortably, which may need medically supervised detoxification.

Most alcohol dependents pass the first phase of rehab, which is to get sober.  The big challenge lies in staying alcohol-free for the long term.

Minnelli's last stint at the rehab was more than a decade ago, according to her spokesman.

There were reports that Minnelli turned down an offer to join television show "Celebrity Rehab" in 2010, that helps celebrities go through the process of getting sober.

The 69-year-old actress had undergone a back surgery in September to address an injury that not only prevented her from performing for most parts of the year, but also hindered her from attending her good friend, Joan Rivers' funeral in New York.

Minnelli won a 1973 Academy Award for her performance in "Cabaret".

She has also brought home Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.
