In spite of the spate of shooting and violent attacks on private and public places in various parts of the world recently, Swedish police believe the Wednesday shooting in a café in Gothenburg is gang-related and not terrorism-related.

The strafing of café customers by two gunmen who wore skeleton masks and yellow high-visibility nets killed two people and injured more than 10 people, reports Arab News.

It will be recalled that a few weeks back, a café in Sydney, Australia, was held hostage by a lone gunman who was inspired by the terrorist group Islamic State (IS). Gunmen who stormed the Paris office of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo likewise had links to the Middle Eastern terror group that decapitates its hostages.

And this week, the IS likewise claimed responsibility for the attack in a museum in Tunisia that resulted in the death of more than 20 people, majority of whom are foreign tourists.

While he believes the Wednesday incident is not terror-related, police spokesman Bjoer Blixter admits similar shooting incidents the past years were not of this magnitude. The gunmen, who fled by car after the shooting, are now the subject of a manhunt. But Blixter says that no arrest has been made so far.

The gunmen aimed at the heads of their victims, an employee of the café said. Blixter said that the two dead are in the age ranges of 20 to 25, while the injured are from 20 to 60.

The mother of one of the dead said her 20-year-old son was just at the wrong place at the wrong time because he just went to the café to pick up takeaway food.

Most of the injured were brought to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. One has a life-threatening injury, while two are in serious but stable condition.

The incident is believed linked with criminal gangs in Sweden and Denmark that are fighting to have control over the local drug trade. Regional Police Chief Klas Friberg acknowledged the increase in gang clashes recently.
