On Thursday morning, Cor Pan posted a photo of the plane that he and his girlfriend were about to board and joked about the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 which mysteriously disappeared. His original post already garnered almost 15,000 shares as of this writing.

In hindsight, the Dutch passenger's joke turned out to be an ominous prophecy of the plane's immediate fate. His friends initially posted good wishes for his holiday which later on turned into frantic inquiries about the whereabouts of the Malaysian plane.

The Guardian cited one friend saying Cor's "lovely life" ended abruptly. Another wrote that there were "no words" to describe the tragedy and went on to wish strength for his family.

Cor's friends created a Facebook community to honor his memory. The page now has almost 2,660 likes.

The joke about the disappearing aircraft generated various reactions both on Facebook and Twitter. Jamie Craig noted that his final post was quite eerie. National Post also shared Cor Pan's photo, describing his joke as "tragically prophetic."

News.com.au cited Saul Jonk saying Cor's post gave him "goosebumps" and that the incident was "unimaginable."

Earlier today, the airlines released a statement via Facebook confirming the loss of contact with Flight MH17 when it was about 50 kilometers from the Russian border. The plane crash comes just a few months after Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared mid-flight and was still missing up to now.
