A day after the announcement that the new Thor is going to be a woman, a black Captain America joins Marvel's new line of heroes. Marvel Comics' Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada revealed on the Colbert Report that the new Captain America is Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon.

A familiar Marvel character, Sam Wilson is known as Captain Steve Rogers' partner in crime-fighting. However, after Rogers lost his super powers and youth last June, Wilson is tasked with yielding the shield. The "All-New Captain America" is scheduled to be released this November.

According to Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort, having an African-American Captain America shouldn't even be seen as groundbreaking. He reiterated, "It's about time. In 2014, this should be a thing that we shrug off, it shouldn't be seen as revolutionary, but it still feels exciting."

The said change will be made in print only - at least for now. Although Sam Wilson has already made an appearance on the big screen, Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers, will continue portraying the "Cap".

Rick Remander, writer of the "All-New Captain America", shared, "I think that it's important with these stories to do things that are natural and make sense and have an inherent logic to the universe, but are also constantly shifting and exciting, keeping the drama high."

Taking on the persona of Captain America, The Falcon becomes a shield-wielding superhero who can fly, and an ultimate force to be reckoned with.

Remander added, "Sam's not going to be Steve. Steve can be very rigid. That can be kind of joyless at times, whereas Sam is absolutely not that."

Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, appeared in Marvel Comics in 1941 as a frail, idealistic dreamer turned muscular Nazi-fighting super soldier. He was revived in the 1960s and has become one of Marvel's iconic superheroes.
