Kristie Macosko, Dan Farah and Donald De Line will produce the film, while Zak Penn has already written the script.

"Ready Player One" was published back in 2011. The story is set in the near future where the advancement of technologies such as gaming, Internet and virtual reality have changed the world. These technologies paved the way for the creation of the "Oasis," a universe that's considered virtual reality but one that people value more than the real world they live in.

Execs Racheline Benveniste and Jesse Ehrman are tasked to run the studio. The president and head of creative development of Warner Bros. Pictures, Greg Silverman, opened up about the news and expressed how excited they are to welcome the 68-year old Steven back to their studio, sharing that they've collaborated back in the 80s and 90s and have always wanted to bring the "E.T." director back for years.

"As for 'Ready Player One,' we have always felt that Steven was the dream director for this project," he said.

Steven has just wrapped up on Tom Hanks' new historical spy film the "Bridge of Spies," which is scheduled to hit the big screen on October this year. He will next work on the movie adaptation of "The BFG," short for the "Big Friendly Giant," a children's book by Roald Dahl.
