The furor over the Ferguson shooting of an unarmed black teen by a white officer has barely died down, yet the incident was repeated again in South Carolina.

The incident, which could have been hidden were it not for a video clip offered by a witness as proof, would likely stoke another anti-police sentiment across the U.S. and lead to violent wave of protests.

The victim, 50-year-old Walter Scott, is seen in the video - taken by a young man identified as Feidin Santana using his Samsung mobile phone - running away from North Charleston officer Michael Thomas Slager who shot Scott on the back.

On Tuesday, Slager was charged with murder. He could have gotten away with the death of Scott were it not for the youth seeing the police report on Slager's version of the event.

Slager, 33, claimed her shot Scott because he feared for his life since the latter allegedly got his Taser during a scuffle after a traffic stop on Saturday. However, the video showed he fired eight times while Scott was running away, reports the New York Times.

"I saw it was going the wrong way ... I got mad," LA Times quoted Santana who initially approached the police to share the video but feared for his life and ran out. However, when he saw the police report, he instead went to the victim's brother and shared the video.

Santana's fear of police revenge is understandable because another whistleblower was harassed and even arrested after he exposed his mobile phone video of New York resident pleading he couldn't breathe because of the arresting officer's use of the chokehold on him.

Ramsey Orta, the 22-year-old witness who shot the video and made it public, was arrested in August for allegedly carrying a stolen semiautomatic handgun, which he said is police retribution for the expose.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, who announced the filing of murder charges against Slager, said at a news conference, "When you're wrong, you're wrong. And if you make a bad decision, don't care if you're behind the shield or just a citizen on the street, you have to live by that decision."

Besides the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division which is investigating the incident, the FBI and the Justice Department have also stepped in and are also conducting its own probe of the incident which rocked the nation and the world anew.

Scott had previous arrest records, mostly for failure to pay child support or attend court hearings. His brother Anthony said that Walter - who has four children - probably run away from Slager thinking he was again being apprehended for child support.
