Rumor: Cecilia Cheung Axed from Cast of ‘Fly Me to Polaris 2’

Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung has been kicked out from the new film 'Fly Me to Polaris 2' after she allegedly asked an additional $5 million HKD on top of her talent fee and for the filming location to be changed to Singapore.

Cecilia Cheung was announced as one of the cast members of the film 'Fly Me to Polaris 2', the sequel of the 1999 hit film 'Fly Me to Polaris' where she won the award for Best New Performer during the 19th Hong Kong Film Awards.

However, local media outlets reported that Cheung was removed from the list of cast members of the sequel due to her alleged diva behavior.

Sources claimed that Jingle Ma, the director of the film, persuaded the production heads to hire the actress to star in the sequel again despite the high talent fee of $10 million HKD that she asked for. However, after the production heads and Cheung agreed on the talent fee, the actress allegedly asked for an additional $5 million HKD and requested for the filming site to be changed to Singapore where her two sons live.

Her requests allegedly made the production company so furious that they decided to remove her from the movie.

During a run-in with the media, Ma stated that, earlier this year, the production company already talked to Cheung, but also clarified that matters are not yet decided. "We don't necessary have to cast her," the director stated, adding that she did not say she will produce the film.

Furthermore, Ma claimed that she will be filming 'Paris Raiders' first and that the sequel to 'Fly Me to Polaris' will be postponed. She stated that there are no final decision yet regarding who will play the lead role.

Cheung's manager, on the other hand, admitted that the negotiations with the production company are still ongoing. The manager also added that the reports were mere rumors.
