Apple's "Project Titan" is officially a secret. News of Apple's electric car project has already spread, however.

It's been reported that hundreds of car engineers are already working on the project. A lot of them were pirated from other high tech companies such as A123 Systems, Mercedes and Tesla.

Freelancer, an online job site, recently held a contest where independent designers presented their own concepts of the Apple car. The concept cars look amazing on paper.

Apple itself hasn't given any official details with regards to the design or features of their Titan car. For now, rumors say it will be an electric and a semi-autonomous vehicle.

The Apple car design contest collected 193 entries. The best designed concept car will be awarded US$1,500.

The winner of the Freelancer contest was Aristomenis Tsirbas.  His futuristic design got the most approval and also affirms Apple's preference for minimalist design.

The winning concept car features front and back external LED high resolution screens "for user selected headlight or taillight designs." The winning entry also includes lateral hatch doors.

Another notable entry was from Maximchernysh. It's styled as a Volkswagen bug that has broad body frame with no side windows.

A number of the concept car designs look very futuristic like the entry of DearbornDesign. He presented a shark inspired Apple car. It has low ground clearance and you have to enter through the front panel.

Apple usually embarks on ambitious projects that don't make it beyond the research stage. The Project Titan car could suffer a similar fate. It's also rumored Apple will start producing the Apple cars by 2020.

While Apple hasn't officially confirmed its entry into the electric car market, its recent hiring and pirating of car engineers and technicians indicate the company is making some serious moves towards that direction.
