ISIS Launches Another Deadly Attack In Baghdad

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) took responsibility for one of the deadliest attacks on Baghdad civilians recently.

A suicide bomber killed 33 people in the Shi'ite district of the Iraqi capital.

According to ISIS, Abu Abdul-Rahman al-Tunisi, a Tunisian fighter carried out the explosion.

Initial reports showed that 23 people were killed in the attack, but officials raised the number of dead victims to 33 after morgues and hospitals released status reports. Also, more than 50 people were wounded in the most recent suicide bombing the target of which was the Shi'ite shrine located in Kadhimya.

The bombing was just one of a wave of ISIS attacks on Baghdad. In another bombing incident last Saturday, several explosions killed 27 people.

The past month witnessed ISIS troops moved closer to Bagdhad. It swept through most of Iraq's Sunni Mulsim provinces. The group has taken control of several cities on their way, including Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq.

ISIS' goal is to establish an Islamic caliphate based on the sharia laws. In areas where they have taken control, the islamic militant group have already introduced the Islamic law to the citizens.

The group banned smoking, thieves get their hands cut off and women are expected to cover their faces and bodies completely and should not be seen alone in public.

A week ago, the government launched a counter-offensive was launched to re-capture the town of Tikrit, where former president Saddam Hussein was born, but government forces withdrew after a fierce response from the Islamic militants.

On Wednesday morning, the Iraqi air force launched an airstrike on civilian neighborhood in the town of Sharqat, north of Tikrit. According to hospital sources 12 were killed.

The identities of Sunni Muslims who died in the airstrike remains unknown.
